Reflexology & Aromatherapy in Maidenhead, nr. Reading

What happens in a Typical Reflexology / Aromatherapy session?

A typical reflexology session begins by my welcoming you into warm, relaxing surroundings and asking that you remove footwear.
You will be invited to lie down on a comfortable professional type of lounger and be covered with a light blanket, as you may experience a slight drop in temperature during the process of reflexology. Relaxation music may be played.

At the first consultation, I will need to take details from you regarding:
  • Your relevant medical history
  • Any operations, procedures, injuries
  • Current treatments and medications
  • Lifestyle history
  • What you would like to achieve from your sessions.
I regard this part of the first treatment as particularly important as to how I will approach your individual needs.
I will sit at the foot of the chair and, using a few drops of almond oil applied on to the feet, I begin the process of reflexology.
I start by gently massaging the feet in turn and then apply firmer pressure to various parts of the feet.
This will not only help you to relax, it will also help me to know where there are areas in the body that may be congested. Also, it will help me to know where to apply mirroring pressure on the feet to help this, and to strengthen up your systems generally.
If you want support with your nutritional/supplemental needs, you are welcome to talk to me about this, or any stress related problems you may be having. If not, then just lie back and relax!!
At the end of the session your feet will be wrapped in a towel to keep them warm.
You will be advised to drink a few glasses of water once you get home, and to expect a slight reaction that can occur, though not always. For example, you may feel extra tired and may sleep more deeply that night and/or you may experience some mild cold-like symptoms.
You may need to visit the toilet more than usual as the body seeks to eliminate the waste products. Reflexology encourages the body to eliminate these, as it works to restore balance.

A typical Aromatherapy session will also begin with a warm welcome. My clinic is furnished with a specialised massage couch. I will need to take your history, at the first session as above.
Essential oils are used - organically produced oil is used when possible. Individually-tailored oil mixtures are used and combined with base oil - usually almond - into sterile bottles. Any superfluous oil can be kept for home use by the client.
The oils have varied properties and can target specific problems, they also smell delicious alone, or when mixed in certain combinations.
They work via absorption through the skin, and by inhalation via the limbic system of the nose and first cranial nerve.
Their uses, when used with massage, may include:
  • For anxiety, insomnia, stress conditions, depression
  • Skin Problems
  • Decrease aching muscles and joints
  • Improve circulation

Relaxation methods of massage are used. If necessary, deep tissue massage methods may be applied to stiff, aching muscles to help reduce any pain and/or discomfort the client may have been experiencing.
